How to Apply and Selection Criteria

Rita and Andy Valk were both passionate about the Kwinana community and their Rotary Club. In 2021, Old Flames partnered with the Rotary Club of Kwinana and Rita and Andy Valk Foundation to award, each year, a scholarship to a student(s) who is/are resident(s) of the Town of Kwinana and who is/are attending an educational institution within the Town of Kwinana

Scholarships are under the following categories:

  • Year 12 Sustainability Scholarship ($500)
  • Year 12 Creative Arts Scholarship ($500)
  • Year 12 Hospitality Scholarship (VET) ($500)
  • Year 12 Building & Construction Scholarship (VET).  ($500)

In addition to the scholarships mentioned above, this generous sponsorship enabled the Gilmore College Educational Scholarship Trust to provide funds for a Program Assistance Scholarship for Year 11 and 12 GEM students.

  • Year GEM Program Assistance (2x $1000)
  • Year 12 GEM Program Assistance (2x $1000)
  • Year 11 Financial Support for Students (3x $250)
  • Year 11 GEM Financial Support for Students (4x $250)
  • Year 12 Financial Support for Students (3x $250)

*Please note that Program Assistance scholarships don’t require an application form. Recipients will be selected following advice from Students Services in consultation with the Executive team.

Application Process

Applicants may be required to complete an Gilmore College Scholarships Application Form and a Letter of Application in which they explain:

  • why they should be awarded the scholarship
  • how being awarded the scholarship would assist them
  • their intended Senior School studies
  • how they can make a positive contribution during their senior years at Gilmore College
  • their ambitions for the future

Students must also be aware of their responsibilities as applicants, such as completing the application accurately and submitting it on time, taking responsibility for the required documentation, checking emails related to the scholarship process daily and replying to them within 24 hours of receipt, and being on time and prepared for the interview.

Selection Criteria

When selecting the recipients, the panel will consider the following:

  • the applicant’s ability to demonstrate that he/she will provide a positive contribution during their senior years at Gilmore College
  • scholarship specific future ambitions

Terms and Conditions

Applicants must be:

  • Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia within the meaning of the Australian Citizen Act 2007 (proof of either must be provided if requested)
  • Currently residing in the State of Western Australia
  • Completing Year 10, in the year of application, for Year 11 scholarships
  • Enrolled or prepared to enrol and complete Years 11 and/or 12 at Gilmore College, following the awarding of the scholarship.
