LYRiK Scholarships Program

City of Kwinana

The Leadership, Youth and Respect in Kwinana Program offers twelve $1000 Scholarships to young people aged 15-24 years who live, work, or go to school in Kwinana, have an employment or an education goal they want to achieve and would benefit from mentoring.

Recipients will attend four fortnightly mentoring sessions in May/June at the Zone Youth Space. These sessions equip young people with financial, budgeting and goal setting skills, tailored to suit their needs and learn more about their field of interest.

Scholarships are offered under six different categories:

  1. Sports, Fitness and Health – for occupations such as personal trainer, nurse, sports instructor, coach or dietician
  2. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Sustainability – for occupations such as engineer, software designer or lab technician.
  3. Community Services and Defence – for occupations such as youth worker, army officer, counsellor or fire fighter.
  4. Hospitality and Retail – for occupations such as barista, store manager, chef.
  5. Arts and Culture – for occupations such as film maker, painter, tourism operator, photographer or dancer
  6. Trades and Business – for occupations such as lawyer, plumber, electrician or hairdresser.

The Scholarships Program allocation is a six-month process comprised of different stages: applications, open in December of each year and close at the end of March; fortnightly mentoring sessions at the Zone Youth Space, throughout May and June; LYRiK Awards, for mentors and recipients.
