The Gilmore Clontarf Academy exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, and by doing so equips them to participate more meaningfully in society.
The Gilmore Clontarf Academy commenced in 2008 and currently has 70 boys enrolled. For years 7-9 the Program has a focus on improving school attendance and behaviour with a variety of incentives such as camps, sport carnivals and excursions to entice the boys to continue their development at school.
As the boys move through the years there is a heavy focus on employment and being work ready. The program carries out a variety of activities such as worksite visits, MOC interviews and corporate partner interactions that help prepare the boys for life in employment after school.
The program is centred around 5 pillars:
- Leadership
- Well-Being
- Education
- Employment
- Sport
Upon completion of Year 12, Clontarf have an employment division whose role is to find suitable employment for all academy graduates.
