Instrumental Music School Services

As a public school in Western Australia, Gilmore College is able to offer students exceptional experiences through participation in instrumental music programs which are conducted on campus through Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS). IMSS provides students with opportunities to extend their musical knowledge through weekly 30-minute lessons with an instrumental music specialist teacher.

IMSS teachers are qualified musicians and registered teachers. They work with more than 400 Primary and Secondary public schools across Western Australia, teaching students from Years 3 to 12. If accepted into IMSS, students will also participate in classroom music to build theoretical knowledge alongside their practical musicianship skills.

Upon enrolment into Gilmore College, Year 7 students will receive an IMSS expression of interest form which can be completed and returned to Administration for consideration. These forms are also available to collect from Ms Jessica Rolls, the Gilmore College Music Teacher and IMSS Coordinator.

Selection into this program is based on musical aptitude testing, which will be conducted during the Year 6 transitional period. If your child is selected, you can be sure that their love of music will be nurtured, and they will be given many opportunities to participate in a range of musical enrichment activities. IMSS is an extracurricular commitment, therefore, students who are accepted into the IMSS program are expected to attend their 30min lesson every week and are also expected to attend and participate in School Ensembles.

The instruments we offer at Gilmore College are as follows:
